DMCI Parent Grad Committee

History
For many years, DMCI parents and family members have taken an active role in planning and participating in their child's Safe Grad Dinner and Dance. Without the help of these hardworking committee members, there would be no Safe Grad and fewer memories for their children. We have always been fortunate to have had strong parent support over the years and we hope to carry on this fine DMCI tradition this school year.

The DMCI Parent Grad Committee meets with Teacher Advisers once a month over the course of the school year to discuss fundraising options to lower ticket costs, as well as ways to ensure that the Safe Grad component of the Dinner/Dance evening runs smoothly and is always a success. We welcome not only parents but aunts, uncles, older siblings and former DMCI Alumni to join our meetings. We will send an e-mail reminder the week before the meetings and all of the dates will be marked on our website calendar. Past committee members have said that the monthly meetings are relaxed and a nice way to connect with other DMCI parents. They are usually about an hour in length.

Previous fundraising experiences such as Walmart hotdog sales and Bud, Spud and Steak Nights have been full of laughter and fun memories. Safe Grad activities such as our annual Fun Casino allows family members to play the role of casino dealers and silent auction callers. Although we aren't sure who enjoys the Fun Casino aspect more, the parents or the students, the smiles are a sure indication that it is a lot of fun for everyone involved.

If you would like to be a vital  part of your child's graduating year or would like more information about the DMCI Parent Grad Committee, please contact one of the teacher advisers listed below using their e-mail address or at 204-783-7131. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!

2026 Grad Photos - Appointment Booking Now Open

Hello Parents/Guardians,

Our grads can now make appointments for their grad photo session.  They can see Ms. Brown in Student Services.

If your child did fundraising, please just remind us when they pay so that we can check their funds. See poster for details and any specific questions can be directed to Ms. Brown at [email protected]

Information on the grad package will be given at the time your child makes their appointment.  If payment is made after booking their appointment, payments can be done with Mrs. Ilagan or Ms. Brown anytime after but no later than their grad photo appointment.

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser - Pick up Date January 19th (Email will be sent re: time)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We will be having our final Grad Fundraiser: Krispy Kreme Donuts. Students will take orders and return the form and payment by Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, when we return from Winter Break.
Students will sell one dozen donuts for $15.00 and receive $7.00 per one dozen sold. Profits will go to their individual grad account. These funds can be used to pay for grad photos, cap and gown rental, dinner and dance tickets and grad hoodies.

Once we know when the donuts will be ready for pick up, we will send an email but the approximate date is Jan. 19.
Students can see me for an order form or I can email one to you to print off.

When returning order forms and payments, please pay in big bills to make it easier to count. As well, a cheque payable to DMCI grad can be written out. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Thanks,
Mrs. Ilagan

Chocolate Fundraiser Update

We have chosen not to do the Chocolate fundraiser due to rising costs of the chocolates and shipping.  We are willing to explore other options to do for January or February.  Currently we are exploring doing a Krispy Kreme one but if you have participated in or know of any, please feel free to let me know.  Please note that our Fundraising is done by teachers in a voluntary fashion so we need to keep in mind the simplicity of it in terms of collecting funds, return to students and time to sort or allow for pick up.

Welcome Message

Hello Parents/Guardians and Caregivers,

I'm Mrs. Ilagan, one of the grad advisors and your liaison for Grad Information.  Your child is on our Potential Grad list so you will be receiving information from me throughout the school year related to Grad.  Some months will be busier than others but I try to send updates once a month.

You are also welcome to visit our website:  dmcigradweebly.com at any time.  As well, please check with your child if they have joined our Grad Google Classroom.  If not, we ask them to join using the code: saxodas7.  This will have past information.  Current information is posted in the Stream and information is further sorted under "Classwork" under various topics.  Your child can also invite you to join so that you receive this information.

We have already posted some Post-Secondary Information and info on two scholarships.

To introduce the year, please carefully read over the information below.

What’s coming up?
Stay tuned for information on our Fundraisers towards your child’s graduation expenses:

Kernels Popcorn (November)
Chocolates Pre-orders (December)

Fundraised money goes towards a student’s individual expenses.  This year, these are the approximate costs for Grad:

Grad Photo Packages:  $110 Cap and Gown Rental: $50
Dinner and Dance Ticket:  $115 each per grad and guest, if applicable ($60 each for parents/guardians).

The above can be paid in advance at any time, in part, or fully, but Grad Photos and Cap and Gown Rental will be due in March (at time of Grad Photo appointment) and Dinner and Dance Tickets will be due on May 20, 2026.

Note: Printed and digital photos will be given to graduates at the Convocation ceremony. After a child’s photo session, proofs will be sent out for you to choose those you want printed.

Fundraising can also be used for in school expenses such as Sports/Clubs, Grad Hoodies, etc. We will just need to know so that we can transfer funds to the appropriate account.

Your child also has the option to put money into their “Grad Bank” and make small deposits throughout the year. This is a great way to avoid a larger lump sum amount in May.

Any payments can be done by cash, cheque payable to “DMCI Grad” or Debit Square Tap.

DMCI Grad hoodies will be on sale in October!  Listen for announcements and tune in to emails. Grads, join our Grad Telegram Channel and Grad Google Classroom. See email for invite codes.

WPS News Release - Public Awareness: High School Senior Assassin Game

The WPS issued a News Release yesterday advising of a social media trend and its existence in local high schools involving graduating students. The live-action game is called “Assassin”, in which players, graduating high school students, engage in "taking out” fellow students using water pistols to eliminate one another In an effort to become the last surviving player. The general public may not be familiar with this “game” and not recognize the activity as such and place a call for police to attend, as the activity is not limited to school property and can occur at any time of day. This may cause strain on police resources as units are dispatched away from community members with legitimate calls for service.

The Winnipeg School Division encourages parents /guardians to speak with their children in their care and advise against engaging In this activity. To our knowledge, this live-action game Is not taking place in our schools. Should you become aware of any activity occurring in your school/community, please email Ms. Brenda Lapointe, Board and Community Liaison Officer at brlapointe@wsd1 .org to report the activity.
